Position Title : Catering Manager

Reporting To : Train Manager

Position Purpose:

1.Catering and household management on-board Transnet-Phelophepa.

2.Travel management and logistics.

3.Form part of Phelophepa supervisory team

4.Form part of Phelophepa risk team

5.Management of rail operational logistics in liaison with the Phelophepa Management and TFR operations.

Position outputs:

1.Management of the catering/ hospitality as per required policies and guidelines.

2.To ensure the provision quality/ nutritious/ well balanced meals to staff, students and guests including special dietary requirements

3.To plan daily menu’s within approved budgets.

4.Management of the departmental administrative responsibilities.

5.To ensure that all canteen cash-up procedures are adhered to.

6.Management of consumable and assets as per required policies and guidelines.

7.Ensure professional conduct and management of all catering staff.

8.To ensure alignment with occupational health and safety legislation and guidelines.

9.Risk management and control including evacuations and appropriate dress code.

10.Catering staff management and hospitality students’ development.
11.Management of the debit card facility.

12.To ensure that all money is banked according to procedure, and that all withdrawals on the debit card are done according to Transnet financial policies.

13.Travels logistics management.

14.Management of rail Operational Logistics in liaison with Phelophepa management and TFR operations.

15.Compiling and Completion of Phelophepa 1 & 2 routes for the following year. In consultation with Phelophepa

management team.

16.Station and site visits in advance of the upcoming itinerary.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma / Degree in catering/ Hospitality management
  • 2 – 5 years experience in catering and hospitality industry as a manager.



  • Knowledge of an African language is an advantages
  • Culinary expertise
