LEARNERSHIP IN FIREFIGHTING (REF:2018-19/042)
SIX (6) MONTHS FIXED TERM CONTRACT
The Local Government Sector Education Training Authority together with Govan Mbeki Municipality is piloting the BASIC LEARNERSHIP IN FIREFIGHTING which will be ready for implementation in early May 2019 and would like to invite unemployed persons to participate in the project. Successful completion of the basic Learnership after 6 months will lead to Firefighting certificates
? Scholars who have completed Grade 12
? A suitable level of numeracy and literacy skills (Grade 12 level)
? Applicants should reside within Govan Mbeki Local Municipality areas
? Age between 18-25 years
OUTCOMES OF THE LEARNERSHIP
Learners must demonstrate the following basic outcomes upon completion of the Learnership:
? Understanding of the culture, mission and organisational principles of the fire service and firefighter safety.
? Understanding of the physical and chemical changes related to fire and factors to consider when suppressing fire and actions to take.
? Understanding the purpose and characteristics of protective clothing and equipment
? Understanding of the different fire service tools and equipment and their use.
? Understanding of the difference between rescue and extrication
? Understanding of the communication responsibilities for firefighters.
? Understanding of the fire prevention activities and public safety education.
? Ability to identify different hazardous materials.
? Understanding of the contents of the Fire Brigade Services Act.
? Understanding of the applicable codes on Community Protection against fire.
? The learning is a combination of theoretical classes and practical training in the workplace.
? The service provider (Educational Institution) will offer theoretical learning to provide the required background knowledge a learner needs to reach each outcome.
? The workplace (Employer) will provide the practical application of the knowledge obtained in the classroom.
? The learner must receive active practical training in the workplace under the supervision of a mentor.
? 50% of the assessment will take place in the workplace by means of demonstration (on–the-job assessment). The other 50% will be assessed by the service provider in the classroom (off–the-job assessment)
SCREENING OF APPLICATIONS
? Please note that the Learnership Project Team will screen the application/nomination forms in order to determine whether the applicant is able to embark on the learnership due to a the requirement of suitable numeracy and literacy skills.
? Priority will be given to PDI’s (Previously Disadvantaged Individuals) and Disabled Individuals.
STIPEND: R 1 500.00 per month
